Ames Wheelbarrow Litigation

Ames plastic wheel assemblyOn April 16, 2002, Ames True Temper, Inc., in conjunction with the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission, has recalled nearly 650,000 wheelbarrows with plastic wheel assemblies or rims, pictured here.

These wheelbarrows were recalled because the plastic rims can explode or break when being filled with compressed air, causing plastic shards to explode from the rim and strike consumers. The injuries from such explosions can be devastating. Ames True Temper, Inc. and/or its predecessor company, O. Ames Company, had received eight reports of consumers being injured by these exploding wheelbarrows before the recall.

Atlanta Attorneys, Cash, Krugler & Fredericks, filed suits against Ames in Georgia and Ohio on behalf of two consumers who were injured when an Ames’ plastic wheelbarrow rim exploded. One received traumatic injuries to his skull and brain, requiring emergency surgery and extensive neuro-rehabilitation. The other received extensive damage to his hand when Ames’ plastic rim exploded and the shards struck him. In both instances, the firm was able to obtain confidential settlements on behalf of the injured victims.
